A Huge Bag of Aero Bars!

My good buddy (cousin?) Miah just returned from Montreal and brought me back some French Canadian goodness. Check out the size of this bag of Aero bars! Hehe... I also had some fun with Photoshop on my face.

new shipment has arrived!

My latest shipment of international treats has arrived. From Japan, I received two Pineapple Kit Kats. From Mexico arrived a Bubu Lubu bar, which (assuming I've translated the Spanish correctly) is jelly and marshmallow cubes with chocolate flavor... I'll have to see about that one. From Canada, I got Cinnamon and Peanut Butter Kitters. Finally, from the US came a pack of Kona Creme coffee flavored gum. I'm quite interested in that after my wonderful experience with the Ritter Sport bar the other day. Consequently, I'm still working on that bar. I've been eating a little bit each day because of the massive calories and amount of fat that it has. I'll be reporting on the Bubu Lubu bar first. I'm not usually a fan of jellied candies, so I don't know how this is going to fair with me. Until then...

nestle coffee crisp (Canada)

I recently got my hands on a Nestle Coffee Crisp. I didn't think I had eaten one of these since the last time I was in Canada, several years ago. One strange thing I noticed about the packaging on this bar is that it was half in Spanish. Last time I checked, Canada had only two official languages. The outside of the wrapper described this bar as "wafers with coffee creme center" (galletitas con centro cremoso de cafe). It was an extremely chunky looking bar and relatively cheap for its size.

The bar itself looked like a lumpy Kit Kat Chunky. It had a very thin layer of chocolate surrounding the wafers. Each of the several wafers in turn had a very light coffee cream sandwiched in between. The actual taste of the bar was much lighter than one might expect. In fact as I ate it, I could picture Brits eating these with their tea. All in all, the bar was quite good, but not exactly as coffee flavored as I would have expected. I also would have like to have seen the chocolate be a bit thicker. Otherwise, this was a decent chocolate bar.

I'm not going to do a review on this because it's common knowledge that regular Kit Kats always score a perfect 10, unless I find them under our refrigerator a year later. This special Easter edition Kit Kat has bunny ears that run the length of the Kit Kat. Amazing! What will Hershey think of next? Anyhow, I love 'em. Blah, blah.

In other news, my latest shipment from Japan came. Jason (my contact in Japan) sent me a large bundle of Kit Kats very nicely packaged, as if they were laid out in some formal style. Huh. It's those little extra things. My next order from him will include several new Aero bars and a few new boxed edition Kit Kats. I can't wait! I also think I'm going to reach out to my Canadian resource, as I'm really trying to get a hold of those Cinnamon Kit Kats. Okay, until later on today when I review the Blueberry Fromage Kit Kat...

kit kat chunky (Canada)

Today I'll be delighting myself by eating a regular Nestle Kit Kat Chunky. These are one of the easiest foreign Kit Kats for me to obtain.

Back in the day (a few years ago!) I was astounded to see my first Hershey Big Kat bar. I loved the reconfiguring of the Kit Kat into one large finger. What a great marketing ploy! Little did I know that the Hershey Big Kat was to be easily outdone in both size and flavor, as well as package design!

The Nestle Kit Kat Chunky is a marvel in itself. It has the appearance of a perfectly shaped, monster-sized chocolate finger with nice sharp edges and a Kit Kat logo emblazed on top. As for the taste - only the regular version of the Nestle Kit Kat and the Hershey's Kit Kat can top it. There are thick layers of chocolate on the top and bottom of the Chunky and a huge stash of crisp wafers sandwiched between. I know that I'm a bit biased, being a true Kit Kat fan, but chocolate doesn't get much better than this.

Hmm... Where to begin? For those of you who don't know me personally, I'm a graphic artist. I have always loved the packaging design of the Nestle Aero bars. It's not really the logo itself, as it is just skewed type with a "chocolate bubble" fill, but the good use of complimentary colors and playful fonts (VAG Rounded?).

If you've never had an Aero bar before, you're missing one of the best tasting commercially mass-produced chocolate bars out there. Its gimic are the hundreds of air bubbles trapped in each bar that turn a normal bar of chocolate into an extremely light one which almost melts in your mouth.

I'm quite anxious to try this flavor as I've only had the regular and mint ones so far. This Aero bar is shaped differently than normal ones as it's longer, skinnier and rounder. Unfortunately my first two bites into it were ones of disappointment. There was a lack of caramel in both bites (the "pocket" was empty!) and the chocolate was not as frothy as I had expected it to be. On the third bite, I finally reached the caramel filling and was met with a solid "Old Rolo" type caramel instead of the gooey goodness I thought would be inside.

Although it sounds like this review is one of dismay and complaint, I still give this a thumbs up for its combined taste of the caramel and faux Aero chocolate. Though not on the top of my list, I would still recommend this one to all chocolate lovers out there.
